Know about Data Cost AI Optimization for Azure

What it does, who it is for, how to get the two files, and what you get.

What it does

Data Cost AI Optimization for Azure reads two files from your Azure: the cost export (the money) and the result of one read-only Resource Graph query (the settings). It tells you where the money goes and every waste with its monthly saving and the exact az command to fix it.

What it finds: unattached disks; unused public IPs; VMs stopped but still billed; empty App Service plans and SQL elastic pools; dev/test SQL databases on always-on compute; serverless SQL without auto-pause; Synapse dedicated SQL pools and Spark pools left running; Fabric capacities and Data Explorer clusters running in dev/test; high availability and geo-redundant storage in dev/test; legacy storage accounts; old and premium snapshots; dev/test VMs running 24×7; reservation and Azure Hybrid Benefit candidates; spikes, growing services, the month forecast and untagged spend.

Diagnose and fix by AI: each finding comes with the command for your exact resource, the check to do first, and a living FinOps checklist your team ticks off. Next month, load new files and fixed items tick themselves.

🔗 Connect to Azure (fastest)

Click Connect to Azure, sign in with your work account in the Microsoft window, tick your subscriptions and click Diagnose these subscriptions. The last 60 days of costs and the settings of every resource are read straight from Azure into your browser.

Safe by design: the app "QuantumData Azure Connect" is published by Quantumdata Consulting, verified by Microsoft. It can only read, and only what your own account may see. Your Microsoft sign-in stays in this browser tab and ends when you close it; nothing passes through or is stored on QuantumData servers.

Roles needed: Reader (settings) and Cost Management Reader (costs) on the subscriptions. Organisation approval: some companies let only an administrator approve new apps; the page then shows a link to send to your Microsoft Entra administrator. Until then, use the two files.

How to get the two files

1. Cost export (the money): Azure portal › Cost Management › Exports › Create: "Cost and usage details (actual cost)", the last 30–60 days, CSV, to a storage account; then download the file. Small account: Cost analysis › Download › CSV also works.

2. Resource settings: on the product page click Copy query, open Resource Graph Explorer in the Azure portal, paste, Run query, then Download as CSV. Reader access is enough. Many resources or subscriptions: run it once per subscription and choose all the files together.

Either file alone works: the cost export alone shows the money and the waste it can see in the bill; the settings alone show what to fix (without the saving). Both together find the most and give the saving of each fix.

Your data stays with you

🔒 Both files are read inside your browser and never uploaded. We never connect to your Azure tenant: there is no app to approve and no key to share. Only sign-in, your licence and payment use our secure service.

✨ Ask AI is optional. You see the exact summary first (totals, service names, finding counts) and tick "I agree". Resource names, IDs, subscriptions, resource groups and tags are never sent.

Savings are estimates from your own bill. This page never changes anything in your Azure: check each item before you delete or change it, and confirm licence eligibility before turning on Azure Hybrid Benefit.
